Intent: Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. At Barnack, we are dedicated to inspiring children to develop a love of music and grow as musicians, increasing their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. We have a variety of multi-cultural instruments in school. Children develop their singing skills and a love of singing through weekly hymn practice, religious assemblies and class assemblies. Children also participate in weekly lessons, playing a variety of instruments. We also offer extra provision and wider opportunities in music.
Curriculum Objectives: We aim to ensure children:
- perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of periods, genres, styles and traditions;
- learn to sing and use their voices to create and compose music;
- have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument;
- understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated.
Implementation: We use a range of resources including ‘Charanga’ and ‘Music Express’ and sing up resources to deliver our music curriculum. We ensure that existing units are aligned to the new curriculum.
Impact: The children learn the skills and knowledge of a range of musical instruments, musical terms, styles and composition, as well as an understanding of the role and cultural significance of music and performance.
