A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. At Barnack, we are committed to providing opportunities for children to become physically confident and compete in sport and activities which build character and embed values such as fairness and respect.
We aim to ensure children:
develop confidence to excel in a broad range of physical activities;
are physically active for sustained periods of time
engage in competitive sports and team activities;
lead healthy, active lives.
Our PE provision is a mix of direct teaching by class teachers who focus on the dance, gymnastic and outdoor and adventurous elements of the curriculum. And by external sports teachers who focus on the delivery of the ‘games’ elements of the curriculum. Further support the physical education of the children by providing specialist swimming lessons from year 3-6, in line with the new curriculum. We provide extensive further enrichment and exercise opportunities through our sensory circuits, play leaders and our in school and after school extracurricular provision. Through our SLA with AMVC we provide opportunities for all children to take part in inter school coaching and learning activities and a range of competitive inter school events. Our in house PE curriculum for Dance and Gymnastics is based on the Val Sabin Scheme. Our external provider, Premier Sports provides their own in depth planning and assessment in concert with class teachers. We have collectively ensured that existing units are aligned to the new curriculum.
The children at Barnack School receive a broad and balanced PE experience which enables them to experience a wide range of sports and activities, in a range of settings both co-operatively and competitively. This combined with the enrichment activities and extracurricular opportunities ensure that children are switched on to sport as well as the principles and impact of physical activity.
