The Story of Us
Barnack CE Primary School has been at the heart
of the Barnack village community for well over
150 years. The original school building was
opened in 1869, serving the children of local
farming families and those who worked in the
historic Barnack quarries, whose stone had been
used to build cathedrals and great churches across the country.
From its earliest days, the school has been rooted in Christian values and in a close partnership with St John the Baptist Church, which has stood at the centre of village life for centuries. Generations of children have walked through our gates, celebrating harvests, festivals, Easter and Christmas with the church and community, creating traditions that remain at the heart of school life today.

The school building has grown and adapted over time, reflecting the needs of
each new generation. Extensions in the 20th century provided space for more
pupils as the village community expanded, while modern developments have
ensured our children learn in a bright, welcoming and well-equipped environment.
In 2019, Barnack entered a new chapter by forming a partnership with three other local schools – St John’s Church School, Winyates Primary School and Paston Ridings Primary School. Together, we became Spirit, a family of schools inspired to show courage, resilience and hope.
Today, Barnack CE Primary School continues to flourish – proudly combining its rich history with a forward-looking vision, so that every child can thrive academically, socially and spiritually, living life in all its fullness.
