Fun-filled and cram-packed couple of weeks

Wow what a fun-filled and cram-packed couple of weeks Year 4 have had! We had such fun at the Grafham residential, although we are still exhausted now.

The staff from Barnack were really proud of how the children threw themselves into all the activities and collaborated well with children from St Johns and Winyates.

The following week after the residential, we then had a trip to Winyates school for an immersive Viking day. The children played some Viking games, tried on some Viking clothing and tried to lift heavy chainmail. They also held some weapons and shields and learnt how to form a shield wall. We had a brilliant day and the experiences helped to add to the wealth of knowledge we have already acquired about the Vikings.

In English, we have started writing our stories based on 'How to Train Your Dragon'. The children have created their own Viking characters and have written some lovely character descriptions which will feed into their story opening. In maths, we have started our multiplication and division topic, with an initial focus on times tables and multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.

We have started a new topic for science this term; 'Animals including Humans'. We have learnt about food chains, the digestive system and teeth so far. The children loved our digestive system lesson; they find it fascinating but also 'gross'. The facial expressions said it all!
